From the [community profile] snowflake_challenge Community.

Hi. I'm Jill, she/her pronouns. I'm a mother of three grown children (the youngest is in his freshman year of college), one enby, on female, one male. I've been married for 23 years. We're still getting used to being empty nesters, and it's only been like five months. It feels so WEIRD.

I decided to do the Snowflake challenge this year because I miss actually writing. I haven't done much, I feel like; I started tracking days I wrote instead of words I wrote because it felt more doable. I miss writing, and I don't know why it's not going. Still, anything that will get me typing and thinking about what I want to write will help! Challenges have been a huge boost to me in the past, so I hope this one opens some doors I haven't tried yet.

TWS debuted at the beginning of 2024, from Pledis under Hybe - so the same company as Seventeen - with six members. TWS Means 24/7 with us but is pronounced "To us." Their debut song, Plot Twist, reminded me a lot of Boyfriend's Boyfriend, happy and upbeat, and cute. The boys are cute, young, and have great smiles.

And just as a reminder: this is a low pressure, fun challenge. If you aren't comfortable doing a particular challenge, then don't. We aren't keeping track of who does what.

I've been a fan of TVXQ for years. They're who got me into k-pop, honestly. I first heard Rising Sun, although I found them around the time of Purple Line. I miss them as five. I did try to listen to their first album as a duo, and I wasn't that impressed, possibly because they still tried to get the sound of five.

Fandom: Batman
Pairings/Characters: Kyle Rayner/Jason Todd, Jason Todd & Everyone
Rating: Teen
Length: 90k words
Creator Links: AddictedApple at AO3
Theme: crack treated seriously

Summary: Jason Todd discovers that he can travel through the multiverse (on top of his usual weirdness, ie, immortality) and chaos ensues.

Reccer's Notes: I recently fell hard into the Batman fanfic space, and this story bowled me right over. It takes Jason's canon resurrection (and the bizarre canon explanation for it), then posits a slow growth of powers from there -- from a recurring inability to stay dead, through the ability to skip universes, and beyond. All the canon reboots become a part of the story, and the pairing is a hilarious portrait of two guys being oblivious. Each chapter's notes contain extensive canon citations, which adds another level of awesomeness. Great fun and very affecting.

[Edited to add] Content note: The starting author notes include, "I will now put a blanket trigger warning for everything that happens in DC canon." That should be taken very seriously; the cited DC canon gets dark, and many abusive canon events are included in this story.

Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Length: 18,403 words
Creator Links: [archiveofourown.org profile] valleykey
Theme: crack treated seriously, au - modern, social media, pov outsider, trans & non-binary characters

Summary: “Yeah I don’t really use much social media besides LinkedIn,” Sigma says sheepishly. “I post way too much on that app. Of course I have mutuals I like, but...”

A sudden silence.

“What?” Says Atsushi. At the same time that Dazai says, “Mutuals?”

Sigma frowns. “I...post on LinkedIn? What? It's a social media app. Of course I post? And have mutuals?”

/// the one where Sigma has 1.2 million followers on LinkedIn.

Reccer's Notes: An amazing fic that combines modern AU, social media, and crack treated seriously, with thoughtful explorations of characters and relationships that stay true to their canon selves. It’s engaging and will definitely make you laugh <3

Theme: crack treated seriously

Summary: In Which Obi-Wan Kenobi is Shown Holofootage of His 12-Year Old Padawan in a Seedy Nightclub With The Chancellor of the Republic And Has A Proportionate Response.

Reccer's Notes: What I love about this fic is the way that Obi-Wan does put in a certain amount of forethought into his actions, but it just happens to be the wrong forethought. You can see where he's coming from and why it seems like the right idea at the time, and yet it still goes completely off the rails. :D Truly delightful.

Summary: In which Darth Maul applies for a loan, discovers a forgotten heirloom, experiments with space drugs, complains about his nemesis to a captive audience, and learns the value of bank fraud. Also love and friendship, but mostly bank fraud.

Reccer's Notes: A delightful story that starts with a cracky premise and takes it in an interesting direction. There’s a lovely exploration of Maul’s character and his relationship with Obi-Wan. It’s very funny with a heartwarming ending <3

Reccer's Notes: Murder mystery where Harry Du Bois investigates a murder he himself committed, putting him right in the middle of the Kira case. Very funny! The dialogue is perfectly in character, the art is fantastic, and I love how the entire fic is told in the style of the game.

Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Length: 43626 words
Creator Links: [archiveofourown.org profile] shinyopals
Theme: crack treated seriously, epistolary, no canon required, outsider pov

Summary:

I've recently been unexpectedly promoted to lead a department in my organisation, wrote the anonymous emailer.

As there was no one working here when I arrived, my manager, who is head of the organisation, had promised me the choice of my own assistants. However, without warning, he simply presented me with an additional assistant. This new assistant’s first act on his first day was to let a dog into the office. It took several hours to catch and clean up after this dog and it has only been downhill from there. I admit I'm not entirely sure what to do with this assistant now I'm stuck with him. I'm hoping you have some advice?

Kind regards,
New Manager

Abigail Bailey runs a successful management advice blog. One frequent contributor is from a workplace with some... issues.

Reccer's Notes:
The Magnus Archives is a horror audio drama in which the main character starts a new position as archivist in an organization named Magnus Institute that specializes on investigating strange/magical phenomena. Very soon, strange things start to happen to him too. Also, it turns out that his workplace itself is ... not what you could call safe.

This story starts with the idea that the main character writes to a management advice blog about the strange things about his workplace, and becomes a regular writer. The fanfic is told in the form of this advice blog as it could appear on the internet: We get the mails he writes in, and the bloggers answers, and also the comment section. It's hilarious, but also it's taken so seriously as the story progresses and gets darker.

As an outsider POV, it really brings out how horrible the whole Magnus Archives story really is. It also shows very well how the story starts so inconspicuous and then boils the characters in horror like a lobster it a pot - and in this fanfic, the character doesn't event write to the advice blog about what's actually happening (because of secrecy), only the workplace safety circumstances. It's such a fascinating outsider POV.

Since it doesn't expect any canon knowledge, it can be read fandom-blind. Even without fandom-knowledge it's a hilarious and tragic advice blog story and in my case, it was my intro to the story, which I listened to after finishing this fanfic, so it was great advertisement for The Magnus Archives. (Note that it contains out of context but significant spoilers if you're going in fandom blind. For me this added to the re-read factor of the fanfic.)

Content Notes:
  • depictions of outrageously bad workplace safety
  • (canon-typical) dysfunctional interpersonal relationships
  • lighter on the actual supernatural horror than the original canon
  • out of context (but significant) spoilers if read fandom blind

Pairings/Characters: Crew of the Revenge, Israel Hands/Roach (it's tagged this, but it's very blink and you miss it)
Rating: T
Length: 2182 words
Creator Links: sweatervest
Theme: crack treated seriously

Summary: A single artichoke appears onboard the Revenge, and Izzy Hands is nowhere to be found. Naturally, the crew draws the most logical conclusion.

Reccer's Notes: The crew finds a single artichoke on the Revenge and draw the very erroneous conclusion that Izzy has been turned into a vegetable by a sea-witch.  This is delightfully funny, as the crew try to protect the artichoke from getting eaten, among other things.  It very much fits in with the silliness of season 1 of the show.

Happy New Year! Our theme for January is crack treated seriously!

It's time to put on your serious face because this round is for fanworks with ideas that are very, very bonkers, but approached with the utmost dedication to making it work within whatever passes for reality in that fandom. As with our crack round, I ask that you avoid using language associated with drug use and addiction in your recs, as this kind of language, even when used for fun, can be hurtful and alienating.

Now go bananas—but seriously.

The tag for this round is: theme: crack treated seriously

If you're just joining us, be sure to check out our policy on content notes. Content notes aren't required, but they're nice to include in your recs, especially if a fanwork has untagged content that readers may wish to know about in advance.

So, I have 8 entries left of my fannish50 from 2025. Sadly, the last couple of weeks, I got plagued, as my son says. For those who know, I can easily sing anything from Felx of Stray Kids, or Masami of All(h)ours (Check out Wao Wao if you're curious).

it's all very frustrating, as I'm just not up for anything right now, not even this. Which is why it's all very... everywhere.

Anyway, that's my note for the first day of the year. It's not a fun way to start the year, but then, I guess it can only get better from here?

Hi everyone! I'm running a round of Crack the WIP during the first half of 2026. If you want to start the year by finishing off some old projects, and maybe need a deadline and some company or encouragement to push it across the finish line, come join us!

How it works:

Sign up below and tell us a little bit about what you're working on if you want! You can always change your mind later and drop or switch to a different project(s) as your plans change -- signing up isn't a commitment, just an idea of what you might make.

Then when it's finished, post your completed work to the AO3 collection. Note: Important change for this round is that the AO3 collection does NOT keep works hidden. So you can add your works to the collection as long as the work is complete. The collection is moderated and only complete works by people who have signed up will be accepted into it.

Throughout the creation period, we'll have regular (optional) check-ins (and round-ups/celebrations of any newly-finished works), and a final round-up of works at the end.

Sign-ups:

To sign up, copy the text below, paste it into your comment, and answer the questions. If you want to sign up to make more than one thing, just answer once for each thing. Anon comments are turned on, so you can sign up even if you don't have a DW account.

Schedule:

The deadline for WIP-finishing is June 30 this year. Sign-ups are open until then. After that date, the collection will be closed!

Привет and welcome to our new Russian friends from LiveJournal! We are happy to offer you a new home. We will not require identification for you to post or comment. We also do not cooperate with Russian government requests for any information about your account unless they go through a United States court first. (And it hasn't happened in 16 years!)

Importing your journal from ЖЖ may be slow. There are a lot of you, with many posts and comments, and we have to limit how fast we download your information from ЖЖ so they don't block us. Please be patient! We have been watching and fixing errors, and we will go back to doing that after the holiday is over.

I am very sorry that we can't translate the site into Russian or offer support in Russian. We are a much, much smaller company than LiveJournal is, and my high school Russian classes were a very long time ago :) But at least we aren't owned by Sberbank!

С Новым Годом, and welcome home!

Thank you also to everyone who's been giving our new neighbors a warm welcome. I love you all ❤️

Is it Great Literature? Or even necessarily Good Writing? No—but the authors know exactly where in Storyland they’re supposed to be, and I’m the niche audience it’s for; they’ve fried up a tasty sack of potato chips.
